Privacy Policy

🔒

The short version: VidMask processes all of your videos entirely on your device. We do not upload, collect, store, or have access to your videos or the content within them. Ever.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how VidMask ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the VidMask mobile application (the "App"). We built VidMask as a privacy-first tool, and we've designed it to require as little data as possible. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Our Privacy Principle: On-Device Processing

VidMask's core function — detecting and blurring faces, license plates, text, QR codes, and other sensitive regions — runs entirely on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks (such as Vision, Core Image, and AVFoundation).

3. Face Detection and Face Data

VidMask uses on-device face detection to help users blur or hide faces in videos they choose to import. Face detection is processed locally on the user's device using Apple's built-in on-device frameworks.

VidMask does not collect, store, upload, transmit, or share facial images, facial landmarks, face templates, faceprints, biometric identifiers, or identity-related face data.

The App may temporarily use face bounding boxes to place blur, mosaic, black bar, emoji, or avatar overlays on the video. These bounding boxes indicate where a face appears in a video frame and are used only for the current editing and export workflow.

VidMask does not use face detection for authentication, identification, face recognition, face matching, profiling, or advertising.

Videos and face detection results are not uploaded to our servers. No face data is shared with third parties. RevenueCat may be used for purchase and subscription management, but RevenueCat does not receive user videos, face images, face bounding boxes, or face detection results.

If the user exports a video, the exported video is saved or shared only as directed by the user, such as saving to the Photos library or sharing through the iOS share sheet.

4. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

5. Information That May Be Processed

Photos Library Access

To import and export videos, the App requests permission to access your Photos library. This access is used solely to let you select a video to edit and to save the result back to your library. The App accesses your media only on your device and only when you actively use these features. You can manage or revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings.

Purchases and Subscriptions

All payments are processed by Apple through your App Store account, and we never receive or store your payment card details. To manage subscriptions and unlock Pro features, the App uses RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management service. When you make or restore a purchase, RevenueCat processes your App Store purchase and receipt information and assigns an anonymous, randomly generated app user identifier. This identifier is not linked to your name or Apple ID and is used solely to determine and sync your Pro entitlement across your devices. RevenueCat's handling of this information is governed by its own privacy policy, and Apple's by Apple's privacy policy.

Diagnostics and Analytics

The App may use Apple-provided, privacy-preserving services such as crash reporting to help us fix bugs and improve stability. If enabled, this data is aggregated and does not include your videos or their content. You can control sharing of diagnostic data through your device's Settings under Privacy & Security. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs, and we do not use your data for advertising.

6. How We Use Information

Any limited information described above is used only to:

7. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your information. Because your videos never leave your device, there is nothing for us to share. The limited purchase-related data described above is processed by service providers strictly necessary to operate the App — namely Apple (for payment processing) and RevenueCat (for subscription management) — and only for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.

RevenueCat does not receive user videos, face images, face bounding boxes, face detection results, or other media content from VidMask.

8. Data Retention

Because we do not collect your videos or their content, we do not retain them. Your projects and media remain on your device under your control, and you can delete them at any time. Purchase records held by RevenueCat, and any limited diagnostic information handled by Apple, are retained according to those providers' respective policies.

Temporary face bounding boxes and other detection results are used only during the current editing and export workflow and are not retained by us or uploaded to our servers.

9. Children's Privacy

VidMask is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can address it.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information. Since VidMask is designed not to collect your personal data, in most cases there is no personal data for us to act upon. For any requests or questions about your rights, contact us at the address below.

11. Security

Keeping processing on your device is itself our strongest privacy safeguard. Your media is protected by your device's built-in security and the permissions you grant. We encourage you to keep your device's operating system up to date and to use a passcode or biometric lock.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
